At a meeting of the committee of the Jogorku Kenesh, deputy Azizbek Tursunbaev discussed the impact of the green fund of the capital on air quality.

He emphasized that Bishkek was once considered a city abundant in greenery, where trees and irrigation systems contributed to reducing dust levels and improving the microclimate.

Tursunbaev noted that currently the number of green areas has significantly decreased, and merely planting trees without proper oversight cannot solve the existing problems.

In response, the mayor of Bishkek, Aibek Junushaliev, reported that an analysis of the ecological situation was conducted with the participation of international organizations and independent experts as part of the development of the General Plan. They concluded that the standards for greening in the city have been significantly violated.

As the mayor pointed out, according to urban planning requirements, there should be 16 square meters of green space per resident, but in Bishkek, this figure has fallen to approximately 4 square meters.

Junushaliev added that over 18,000 trees were planted in the capital in 2025, with an emphasis on their survival and irrigation. The authorities plan to increase the number of new plantings to 50,000 by 2026.

Additionally, the mayor spoke about the implementation of practices for pre-growing trees in nurseries, restoring irrigation systems, and cleaning ditches and canals. All these measures are aimed at improving air quality and reducing dust levels.
