Smog in Bishkek: "Kyrgyzgidromet" records a decrease in gas emissions
She inquired about the actual reduction in smog levels, what specific initiatives have been undertaken by the city hall and relevant ministries, and what financial support these projects have received from the budget.
Alimjanova reminded that the parliament of the VII convocation supported a number of programs aimed at improving air quality.
“The establishment of an interdepartmental commission of 25 people and the allocation of funds for project implementation are important steps. However, I would like to understand how much the smog level has actually decreased,” she noted.
Daniyar Tologonov, Deputy Director of "Kyrgyzhydromet," reported that, compared to the indicators of 2024, the level of air pollution remains approximately at the same level. However, according to him, compared to 2023, air quality has significantly improved.
He added that several factors influence the situation, including weather conditions, such as a warmer winter. Nevertheless, the deputy director emphasized that the measures being taken by the ministries and the city hall are already beginning to have a positive impact.
“When it comes to pollutants, there is a slight decrease in gas emissions. The measures taken are starting to take effect; however, improving air quality is a process that requires time and depends on many factors,” he explained.
Alimjanova acknowledged that natural conditions play a significant role but emphasized that every measure provided for in the resolutions should lead to a real reduction in smog levels. She also highlighted the need for a clear methodology for measurements and transparent data.
The deputy requested that the committee be provided with written materials on this issue, reminding that in November and December, Bishkek was among the cities with the highest smog levels for several weeks in a row, which sparked widespread public interest.
