Fishing nets retrieved from the bottom of Issyk-Kul are being recycled at a new waste processing plant in Bishkek
According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, divers have surveyed over 1 million hectares of the lake's bottom. By the end of 2025, about 43 tons of garbage and more than 400 kilometers of fishing nets have been extracted, which were previously handed over to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology, and Technical Supervision.
In the last four months, 141 thousand meters of fishing nets have been extracted, which are now being sent for disposal to the Eco-Technology Plant.
Representatives of the Ministry of Emergency Situations noted that for the past 20-30 years, synthetic fishing nets have accumulated in the waters of Issyk-Kul, leading to the death of fish that became victims of poachers. These nets do not decompose and cause significant harm to the lake's ecosystem for many years.
