Wastewater treatment facilities are one of the most important global issues, especially in the context of population growth in large cities and increased resource consumption. This was stated by Meder Mashiev, the Minister of Nature, in his interview with AKIpress.

He noted that many treatment facilities in small towns across the country were built during the Soviet era and are in need of modernization.

As part of the work of the interdepartmental group established by the Ministry of Nature in the fourth quarter of 2025, monitoring of the condition of wastewater treatment facilities is being conducted in 40 major populated areas throughout the country.

“In some cities of district significance, the situation is even more complicated due to various types of wastewater generated from discharges. Next year, we plan to present a concept for improving this system to the Cabinet of Ministers. This was an initiative of the government leader, and we hope to present our proposals at the beginning of 2026, at the end of January or in February,” the minister added.

Furthermore, Meder Mashiev emphasized that the Ministry of Nature aims to propose funding to the government for the modernization of wastewater treatment facilities. “After our group completes its work, we will reach out to both the government and international donors and financial institutions to secure funding for these projects,” he said.
