PM2.5 consists of fine particles smaller than 2.5 microns, which is 30 times smaller than the diameter of a human hair. It is a mixture of dust, ash, soot, as well as sulfates and nitrates present in the air. These substances contribute to the deterioration of air quality, which is characteristic of large cities.
As of January 17, Bishkek ranks 31st in the world ranking for air quality and pollution levels.
