Crime in Kyrgyzstan has increased by 4.3 percent since the beginning of 2026

According to the General Prosecutor's Office of the Kyrgyz Republic, at the beginning of 2026, crime increased by 4.3 percent, according to a report from the National Statistical Committee.

During January and February, law enforcement agencies registered 6,100 crimes, which is 4.3 percent higher than the corresponding data for the same months in 2025.

At the same time, the number of registered cases of serious and particularly serious crimes decreased by 4.3 percent, totaling 784 incidents. Property crimes accounted for 72 percent of the total number of registered offenses.
Among property crimes, there was a significant increase in cases of fraud — their number increased by 1.6 times, totaling 2,345 incidents.
At the same time, statistics showed a decrease in the number of thefts by 30.8 percent, robberies decreased by 1.9 times, extortions by 22.5 percent, and muggings by 16.4 percent.

Increase in Violence and Crimes Against Individuals


According to the National Statistical Committee's report, the security situation has worsened: the number of crimes against individuals increased by 22.8 percent. In particular, the prosecutor's office noted a rise in cases of rape — they increased by 1.4 times, totaling 35 registered cases.
The number of murders decreased to 26 cases, which is 7.1 percent less, and the instances of causing less serious harm to health decreased by 9 percent, totaling only 61 cases.
A total of 2,085 women were victims of criminal actions, primarily due to fraud, as well as 238 children. As a result of criminal actions, 13 minors died, and another 55 were injured. The highest number of crimes against children was recorded in Bishkek (28.6 percent) and the Jalal-Abad region (15.1 percent).

Increase in Corruption Amid Decrease in Drug Trafficking


In the area of official crimes, there has been an anomalous increase in corruption: the number of identified cases increased by 3.25 times, from 24 to 78. At the same time, cases of bribery decreased by more than half — by 50.7 percent. Economic crimes, in general, decreased by 23.5 percent, which is related to a 61.1 percent reduction in tax evasion cases.
The illegal drug trade decreased by 9.4 percent. Almost half of such offenses (48 percent) are related to the possession of prohibited substances.
Over the two months, about 3,000 offenders were identified. Of these, 66.5 percent did not have permanent employment or education, and the proportion of women among the detained was 13.4 percent.

Batken and Issyk-Kul: Regions with the Highest Crime Growth


Analysis of regional data showed a sharp increase in crime in the Batken region (by 77.7 percent), the Issyk-Kul region (by 49.3 percent), and Osh (by 38.3 percent).

At the same time, in Bishkek, the crime rate decreased by 14.7 percent. Nationwide, 757 crimes were committed in public places, the majority of which were thefts and hooliganism.
