According to Abbas Araghchi, the head of the Iranian Foreign Ministry, the United States committed a "crime at sea" while being 2000 miles from Iranian shores. The frigate "Dena," which was on a visit with the Indian Navy and had nearly 130 sailors on board, was attacked in international waters without prior warning. "Remember my words: the U.S. will soon bitterly regret the precedent they have created," Araghchi added.

The incident occurred on March 4, when an American submarine attacked the Iranian frigate "Dena" in international waters of the Indian Ocean, near the southern coast of Sri Lanka. Pentagon chief Pete Hegset confirmed that "the American submarine sank the Iranian warship, which believed it was safe." As a result of the strike, 87 people died, 32 sailors were rescued, and another 60 are missing.
