Juvenile crime has increased by 11%, — Ministry of Internal Affairs
Urmambetov noted that the increase in registered offenses is linked to improved detection due to modern technologies and active preventive work. “Previously, many incidents were recorded only based on reports from educational institutions. Currently, thanks to surveillance cameras, citizen reports, and information from the media, we have been able to identify more offenses,” he added.
As part of the "Safe Country" project, the ministry is implementing the "Safe City" component, which includes the installation of over 5,000 surveillance cameras in public places. The country's president has decided to finance the installation of about 20,000 cameras across the territory, including in educational institutions. In 440 schools, 656 video cameras have already been installed.
According to Urmambetov, preventive measures are being carried out under the law on the prevention of offenses, and the coordination of work is led by the Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers. The Ministry of Internal Affairs has conducted over 101,000 preventive activities involving 16,495 minors, of which 3,851 teenagers were placed on preventive registration.
Together with other state bodies, about 28,000 seminars, round tables, and meetings aimed at preventing bullying, violence, and extortion among youth have been organized, the deputy minister reported. He added that the work on preventing crimes among minors is carried out in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, social services, and local authorities within the framework of inter-agency cooperation.
