In an official statement, the ministry said that "Washington and Tel Aviv have once again embarked on a dangerous adventure that could lead to humanitarian, economic, and even radiological catastrophe. Their intentions are clear — to destroy the constitutional order and eliminate the leadership of a state that has refused to submit to their dictates." The Russian Foreign Ministry emphasizes that the responsibility for the consequences of this crisis, including possible chain reactions of violence, lies entirely with the aggressors.
The ministry called for the immediate restoration of the political and diplomatic process and expressed its readiness to assist in the peaceful resolution of the conflict based on international law and mutual respect.
Reaction of European Countries
The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and the President of the European Council, Antonio Costa, expressed serious concern about the situation in Iran.
In a joint statement, they emphasized that "ensuring nuclear security and preventing further deterioration of the situation is critical." European leaders urged all parties to exercise restraint, protect civilians, and adhere to international law.
French President Emmanuel Macron also commented on the matter, noting that the escalation of the conflict must be stopped and called for an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council.
“The escalation poses a danger to all. It must cease. Iran must understand that it needs to engage in negotiations to halt its nuclear and ballistic programs and to stop destabilizing actions in the region. This is vital for the security of the Middle East. The Iranian people also have the right to determine their own future. The mass killings perpetrated by the Islamic regime strip them of their rights and demand the return of the people's voice,” Macron stated.
The office of Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni expressed support for the people of Iran and announced intentions to consult with allies to reduce tensions in the region.
Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide stated that Israel calls its actions preventive; however, they do not comply with international law, as they require an immediate threat.
A representative of the UK government noted that London is not interested in further escalation of the conflict and will provide consular assistance to British citizens in the region.
The attack by Israel and the US on Iran began on February 28 with numerous air and missile strikes on cities and military facilities. In response, Iran attacked Israel and American bases in several countries in the Middle East. In the first hours of the attack, several high-ranking Iranian officials and military personnel were killed. Following this, US President Donald Trump announced the start of a military operation called "Lion's Roar" in his video address.
