A Million for Freedom or Prison: Pregnant Rhythmic Gymnastics Coach Placed in Pretrial Detention

Reports have emerged on social media that the parents of the injured child filed a complaint after discussing financial compensation.

There is an active discussion online regarding a post by Kyrgyzstani Aydai Aydarbekova, who defended rhythmic gymnastics coach Nazmi Askarova. According to her, she has insider information about the situation and believes it is necessary to convey another side of the story to the public.

Recall that on February 20, Nazmi Askarova was detained in Bishkek. A criminal case was opened against her under the article "Causing serious harm to health" in connection with an incident that occurred on December 24, 2025, when a minor girl was injured during warm-up at training.

Aydai Aydarbekova claims that initially, the father of the injured girl did not make any claims against the coach and acknowledged the risks associated with the sport. Nazmi remained in contact for two months, trying to assist with rehabilitation. However, later the family demanded compensation of $11,000 (approximately 1 million soms), threatening to go to the police and media. After Nazmi's arrest, her relatives raised the specified amount, but the injured party refused to accept it, stating that they would "think about it."

"The question arises: if it was indeed about $11,000, why was it not accepted? Now the situation has changed — Nazmi is in pretrial detention, and it seems the conditions have changed," Aydarbekova notes.

She also emphasized that Nazmi has extensive experience in sports.

"She is a candidate for master of sports, has been practicing rhythmic gymnastics since the age of 4, and has over 5 years of coaching experience. In 2024, she participated in an international conference in Lisbon and is currently in her 5th year at KGAFCiS. It is important to understand that rhythmic gymnastics is a complex and injury-prone sport. Yes, risks exist, and this is known to everyone who connects their children with professional sports. It is also worth noting that the girl had fractures in the past, which the family prefers to keep silent about," Aydarbekova added.

According to her information, Nazmi is pregnant; however, she has been placed in pretrial detention for a period of two months.
