Weapons seized in Leilek District
During the preventive operation "Arsenal," which took place from February 16 to 21, 2026, a situation related to the illegal circulation of firearms was recorded. Police from the Katran rural police station detained 34-year-old A.A. on the Chat pasture, located in the village of Ozgorush in the Leilek rural district.
The detainee was found to possess a single-barrel smoothbore shotgun of 12 gauge, which lacked the necessary permits.
In connection with this incident, a criminal case has been initiated under Article 267 of the Criminal Code, concerning the illegal circulation of weapons and ammunition. Investigative activities are currently underway.
Additionally, during the inspection of registered firearm owners, protocols were drawn up against two citizens for violating storage rules, in accordance with Article 133 of the Code of Offenses. They were fined.
Also, thanks to explanatory work, a 34-year-old resident of the village of Kara-Suu, S.K., voluntarily surrendered a double-barreled smoothbore shotgun of 16 gauge, inherited from his grandfather, to the police. For the voluntary surrender of the weapon, he was exempted from criminal liability.
The Internal Affairs Department of the Leilek District urges local residents: during the Soviet era, some shepherds and collective farm workers received smoothbore and rifled firearms without documents for the protection of livestock. If you have firearms without permits, it is strongly recommended to surrender them to the Internal Affairs Department of the Leilek District.
