According to reports, on February 5, 2023, a 25-year-old woman, M. T., approached the Lenin District Department of Internal Affairs in Bishkek, stating that her husband, 29-year-old D. Zh., had beaten her for no apparent reason on October 15 of the previous year and then expelled her from their home in the Bakai-Ata district. The woman added that during the conflict, she was doused with gasoline and set on fire.
Despite suffering severe burns, M. T. did not report the incident to anyone immediately after it occurred.
Police noted that on the day of the incident, a fire was indeed registered at the specified house.
After the incident, witnesses were interrogated, who claimed that the fire started while trying to light a stove when gasoline was accidentally splashed into it, which led to the burns of both the woman and the man.
On the same day, both were hospitalized, but it was impossible to interrogate them due to the severity of their injuries.
The woman had not previously reported any incidents of domestic violence. Only on February 5 did she file a statement indicating that her husband acted intentionally by pouring gasoline on her.
As a result, an investigation was initiated. The suspect, D. Zh., was detained and placed in a temporary detention facility. A criminal case was opened under the article "Causing serious harm to health" of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic.
It is also worth noting that this case of domestic violence is actively being discussed on social media.
