Today in Moscow, at a residential building on Volokolamsk Highway, an incident occurred involving an assassination attempt on Lieutenant General Vladimir Alekseev, who holds the position of First Deputy Head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Russia. An unknown assailant fired several shots at the officer and then fled the scene. The victim was immediately taken to the hospital.
According to information from the official representative of the Investigative Committee, Svetlana Petrenko, a criminal case has been initiated under articles concerning attempted murder and illegal circulation of weapons. The Prosecutor's Office of Moscow has taken strict control of the investigation. Investigative teams and criminologists are working at the scene.
Vladimir Alekseev, who has held his position since 2011, was awarded the title of Hero of Russia in 2017 for his participation in a military operation in Syria. The general also holds awards such as the Order of Alexander Nevsky and the Order "For Merit to the Fatherland" IV class.
