On February 3, the press service of the State Committee for National Security (SCNS) reported a significant increase in cases of telephone fraud in Kyrgyzstan.

According to the intelligence services, criminals disguise themselves as employees of government agencies, bankers, or law enforcement representatives to obtain personal data and money from citizens.

The SCNS noted that fraudsters use various schemes of deception, including notifications about suspicious transactions on bank accounts, offers for "refunds," or demands for money transfers "to protect against cyberattacks."

The agency also indicated that criminals actively use modern technologies, such as caller ID spoofing, as well as psychological techniques to manipulate citizens.

"Recently, there has been an increase in cases of using the names of SCNS employees, including high-ranking officials, which is a criminal offense under the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic," the press service emphasized.

In addition, the SCNS reported the identification and suppression of several groups that were making fraudulent calls both from the territory of Kyrgyzstan and from abroad. In connection with these facts, several criminal cases have been initiated, and investigative actions are ongoing.

The intelligence services urge citizens to exercise caution and not to fall for the tricks of telephone fraudsters. In case of receiving suspicious calls, it is recommended to immediately end the conversation and contact the national security authorities.

"Do not respond to dubious letters, messages, and requests related to the leadership of the SCNS of the Kyrgyz Republic. It is also important not to share your personal data, PIN codes, passwords, and bank card numbers, and not to transfer money based on requests received by phone or online, even if the interlocutor claims to be a bank or government agency employee," the SCNS added.
