Tragedy in the Baykay-Ata Residential Area. A Policeman Tried to Rescue the Children on His Own
In the evening of January 28, around 5:30 PM, two children — A.Z., born in 2016, and K.A., born in 2019 — left their home and went missing. At 8:25 PM, their relatives contacted the police, which led to the start of search operations.
During the search of the area, one of the officers from the Sverdlovsk District Police Department suspected that the children might have fallen into a frozen pond. He tied himself with a rope and began to crawl across the ice; however, the ice started to crack under his weight. At that moment, rescuers arrived at the scene and were able to retrieve the children from the water. According to preliminary data, unfortunately, they did not survive.
An investigative check is currently underway, during which examinations have been appointed to clarify all the circumstances of the tragedy.
