“Necessary consultations have been obtained”
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan responded to media reports regarding the sentencing of a citizen of the country, J.S.A., who was involved in arms smuggling.
According to U.S. authorities, the Kyrgyz citizen was arrested in 2025, and his sentence was announced on January 22 of this year.
“After the arrest of our citizen, the consular offices of Kyrgyzstan in the U.S. quickly established contact with him and provided the necessary assistance. We maintained constant communication and provided consultations aimed at protecting his rights and legitimate interests in accordance with international law and U.S. legislation,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted.
It should be reminded that, according to information from the U.S. Department of Justice, Sergey Zharnovnikov, a citizen of Kyrgyzstan, was involved in arms smuggling to Russia through Kyrgyzstan for a total of 1.5 million dollars. His illegal activities began in 2020 through a company registered in Bishkek.
