Recently, Israeli military forces received the body of Senior Sergeant of Police Ran Gvili, who became the last hostage to die as a result of actions by Hamas. This was reported by the IDF.

Gvili was captured by militants during their attack on Israel, which took place in October 2023. Now all hostages, both living and deceased, have been returned home.

The return of Gvili's body has become an important step in implementing the second phase of the peace plan for Gaza proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump. This phase includes the demilitarization of the Gaza Strip and the establishment of a new government and security forces. Israel previously assured that it would open the "Rafah" checkpoint between Gaza and Egypt after the search for the last hostage was completed.

On October 13, Hamas released all remaining living hostages and handed them over to Israel, which was the result of an agreement reached as part of the peace settlement proposed by the White House. The exchange took place in two stages.

It is worth noting that the escalation of the situation in the Middle East began on October 7, 2023, when the radical Islamist movement Hamas, recognized as a terrorist organization in the U.S. and the European Union, carried out a massive attack on Israel. As a result of this terrorist act, about 1,200 people were killed, and more than 250 citizens were taken hostage and transported to the Gaza Strip.
