In Maguindanao del Sur, an incident occurred when a group of unknown assailants opened fire with a grenade launcher at the mayor's convoy. As a result of the shooting, two security guards were injured; however, the mayor himself remained unharmed, according to local news sources.

According to authorities, the attackers attempted to flee but were neutralized during an operational pursuit.

This is already the third assassination attempt on this official in the past five years, according to sources in the local administration.
