Corruption. Employees of the weight and dimension checkpoint on the Bishkek - Osh highway detained

Recent events have drawn the attention of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVD) after information was received about abuses by employees of the weight and dimension posts located on the important highway Bishkek — Osh. These posts are subordinate to the Department of Ground and Water Transport of the Ministry of Transport.

It was revealed that the mentioned officials regularly accepted bribes from drivers ranging from 1,000 to 5,000 soms, allowing trucks to pass without penalty while exceeding the permitted weight, without recording the violations. According to preliminary data, between 150 to 200 trucks passed through these posts daily.

In connection with the identified facts, the investigative authorities of the MVD initiated a criminal case under Article 337 "Abuse of Official Position" of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic. During operational activities, employees of the Main Department for Combating Organized Crime (GUUR) of the MVD detained several employees of the weight and dimension post while they were receiving monetary rewards. A preventive measure in the form of detention has been chosen for the detainees — A.Z. (born in 1991), S.U. (born in 1981), A.A. (born in 1998), A.R. (born in 1994), M.M. (born in 1979), T.T. (born in 1973), and A.B. (born in 1994).
