- In recent years, there has been a growth in global energy demand at a rate of 2.2% per year, while over the past 10 years this figure was 1.3%. Arman Akhunbaev, head of the Sectoral Analysis Center of the EDB, announced this information during an online presentation dedicated to the report on the energy transition on March 19.

The presentation showed that the growth rate of energy demand exceeds the speed of implementing new capacities based on renewable sources, especially in countries with developing economies.

“Despite the rapid development of clean generation, consumption is growing even faster. The reasons for this are well known: growth in industrial production, digitalization, new data centers, cooling needs, electric transport, population growth, and urbanization. Therefore, today the key question remains <...> whether the system can provide the necessary capacity to meet the new demand without shortages and sharp price fluctuations. For Central Asia, this question is particularly relevant,” he added.
