Demand for electricity in Kyrgyzstan will increase to 21.6 billion kWh by 2030 (EADB forecast)
According to one of the slides, electricity consumption in Kyrgyzstan is expected to reach 21.6 billion kilowatt-hours by 2030. Currently, in 2024, actual consumption will be 18.3 billion kWh, and forecasts for 2025 predict an increase to 19.3 billion kWh.
According to the data presented, the total electricity demand in Central Asia is projected to be 368 billion kWh by 2030. The distribution of this volume by country will be as follows:
· Kazakhstan – 151.2 billion kWh;
· Uzbekistan – 130 billion kWh;
· Turkmenistan – 35 billion kWh;
· Tajikistan – 30 billion kWh;
· Kyrgyzstan – 21.6 billion kWh.
Kabylaev noted that over the past ten years (2014-2024), electricity consumption in the region has increased annually by 3.2%.
“The economic development of the region, which started from a low base, naturally leads to an increase in electricity consumption. In the next six years, the growth rate of this consumption will accelerate and exceed 5%. The main factors contributing to this increase include industrial development, population growth, urbanization, digitalization, and the emergence of new consumers such as data centers, cryptocurrency mining, and electric transport,” added the EDB analyst.
Reference data:
According to information from the National Statistical Committee and the Cabinet of Ministers, electricity consumption in Kyrgyzstan has increased from 15.5 to 19.3 billion kWh over the past five years, corresponding to an average annual growth rate of approximately 4.5%. If this trend continues, consumption could rise to 24.0–24.1 billion kWh by 2030.
