Massive water releases from reservoirs reported in Kazakhstan
Today, March 16, 2026, the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation of Kazakhstan presented a report on the current situation with reservoirs in the country.
Specialists are releasing water from large reservoirs located in the northern, western, eastern, and central regions to ensure the reception and safe passage of floodwaters, reports Caravan.kz, citing Zakon.kz.
Currently, the situation is as follows.
In the Akmola Region, 1.74 m³ of water per second is being released from the Seletinsky Reservoir, and 1.16 m³ per second from the Chaglinsky Reservoir.
In the Aktobe Region, the discharge from the Aktobe Reservoir is 1 m³ per second, while from the Kargalinsky Reservoir it is 0.3 m³ per second. The fill level of these facilities is on average 36%.
As for the East Kazakhstan Region, 421 m³ of water per second is being released from the Ust-Kamenogorsk Reservoir, and 552 m³ per second from the Bukhtarminsky Reservoir.
In the Abaı Region, 651 m³ of water per second is being discharged from the Shulbinsky Reservoir.
In the West Kazakhstan Region, 5 m³ per second is being released from the Kirov Reservoir, 14 m³ per second from the Bitiksky Reservoir, and 2 m³ per second from both the Dunguluksky and Pyatimarsky Reservoirs.
In the Karaganda Region, the discharge from the Intumaksky and Samarkand Reservoirs is 3 m³ of water per second each.
For the Costanay Region, 1.1 m³ per second is being released from the Upper Tobol Reservoir, and 3 m³ per second from the Karatomar Reservoir.
In the North Kazakhstan Region, 15.8 m³ of water per second is being discharged from the Sergeyevsky Reservoir, and 13.9 m³ per second from the Petropavlovsky Reservoir.
