The deputy reported that coal reserves in Kyrgyzstan amount to about 8 billion tons

- At the meeting of the Committee on Agricultural Policy, Water Resources, Subsoil Use, Ecology, and Environmental Protection of the Jogorku Kenesh on March 9, 2026, Deputy Mahabat Mavlyanova asked a question about the amount of coal used in Kyrgyzstan annually.

In response to this question, the Deputy Minister of Natural Resources, Ecology, and Technical Supervision, as well as the Director of the Kyrgyz Geological Service, Amantur Tursuniyazov, noted that over 4 million tons of coal are mined in the country each year.
According to Tursuniyazov, of this volume, 2.5 million tons are used for the needs of the population and enterprises, while 1.5 million tons are exported.
The deputy also informed that, according to the Ministry of Natural Resources, coal reserves in the country amount to about 8 billion tons.
“How many years will these reserves last, and will there be coal left for future generations?” she asked.
In response, Dzhumaev stated that the issue would be considered.
The meeting also discussed the report on the activities of the Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology, and Technical Supervision for 2025.
