According to information provided by Ulysmedia.kz, there is an increase in prices for both the most in-demand gasoline and diesel fuel.

In January of this year, consumer price indices for gasoline and diesel in Kazakhstan reached record levels: gasoline prices rose by an average of 16.8% (in particular, AI-92 rose by 17%), while diesel fuel increased by 14.2% year-on-year. This growth occurred against the backdrop of a moratorium introduced on October 16, 2025.

January 2026 became a record month for gasoline price increases in recent years. For diesel fuel, the highest price increase was recorded in January 2024, amounting to 14.3%.

According to the study, Pavlodar region was among the leaders in gasoline price increases (CPI 126.3%), followed by Astana (120%), as well as Abai, Almaty, and Ulytau regions. The smallest price growth was observed in the West Kazakhstan region (112%).

High retail gasoline prices were recorded in Astana and Almaty. For example, in the capital, the average price for AI-92 is 251 tenge per liter, while the average price in other cities is 236 tenge. In Almaty, AI-98 gasoline cost an average of 322 tenge in January, which is 10.2% higher than in other regions, where its price reached 355 tenge per liter. Quite high prices for AI-92 were also noted in Zhezkazgan (242 tenge) and Taldykorgan (239 tenge). The least expensive AI-92 gasoline could be purchased in Turkestan (224 tenge) and Atyrau (218 tenge), as reported by Finprom.

The moratorium on the price increase for AI-92 gasoline will remain in effect until the end of March in Kazakhstan. This measure was introduced to control inflation. The Ministry of Energy previously stated that even after the moratorium is lifted, no unexpected jumps in fuel prices are anticipated.
