Users are Massively Deleting ChatGPT: What is the Reason?
In the United States, there has been an almost three-hundred percent increase in deletions of the ChatGPT mobile application in just one day. One-star ratings increased by 775%, while the number of downloads sharply declined. Users began to switch to an alternative app from Anthropic called Claude.
Following the announcement of OpenAI's deal with the Pentagon, users in the U.S. actively started deleting the ChatGPT app. According to information from Sensor Tower, the number of deletions increased by 295% in just one day. In comparison, daily figures for the previous month were at 9%.
Amid this event, interest in the Claude app from Anthropic grew. Just a day after OpenAI's announcement, downloads of Claude increased by 37%, and the next day by 51%. Within a week, the app rose more than 20 positions in the App Store rankings and took first place among free apps.
Anthropic reported that it was unable to reach an agreement with the Pentagon, expressing concerns that their technologies could be used for surveillance of U.S. citizens or for creating fully autonomous weapons. Judging by the statistics, some users supported this position.
In contrast, the number of downloads for ChatGPT began to decline. The day after the news of the collaboration with the military, downloads fell by 13%, and the following day by 5%. Prior to the announcement of the deal, the app had shown a growth of 14%.
There is also a growing discontent on social media. On Saturday, the number of one-star reviews for ChatGPT increased by 775%, and on Sunday by another 100%. At the same time, the number of five-star ratings halved.
