Kazakhstan Plans to Increase Electricity Generation from Renewable Energy Sources to Nearly 9 Billion kWh by 2026
Preliminary data indicates that actual electricity production in 2025 will amount to 8.6 billion kWh, which is 19.4% higher than the planned figures. The share of renewable sources in the overall energy balance of the country has reached 7%.
Currently, there are 162 power plants operating in Kazakhstan that utilize renewable energy sources, with a total capacity of 3.5 GW. This includes wind and solar stations, small hydropower plants, and biogas installations.
In 2026, the Ministry plans to implement 10 new projects with a total capacity of 245 MW, including 5 solar and 4 wind power plants, as well as one hydropower plant.
