Kyrgyzstan may file a lawsuit against the European Union if sanctions are imposed on the country as a result of the alleged export of goods to Russia, The Financial Times reports.

The European Commission is considering the possibility of imposing a ban on the supply of certain goods to Kyrgyzstan that could be used for military purposes. Brussels claims that Kyrgyz companies are violating sanctions by re-exporting these goods to Russia.

Daniyar Amangeldiev, the First Deputy Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan, noted in an interview with FT that the country is making every effort to comply with Western sanctions. He also pointed out that Brussels has not specified what concrete actions Bishkek can take to demonstrate compliance with these sanctions and avoid restrictions.

“If such a decision is made, it will negatively affect our image. We will be ready to challenge it in court,” he added, noting that Kyrgyzstan has “evidence of its actions,” while Brussels “has not provided the appropriate mechanisms to meet the requirements.”

“The rules must be clearly defined. How can we follow them if they are not formulated?” Amangeldiev posed a rhetorical question.

Documents submitted by the EU claim that Kyrgyzstan is re-exporting dual-use goods, including machinery and electronics that can be used in the production of weapons and drones.

Amangeldiev emphasized that the significant increase in imports to Kyrgyzstan is related to large and profitable deals with European countries, including projects for the construction of hydroelectric power stations. He also acknowledged instances of goods being transited to Russia but assured that the country is determined to prevent this.
