The controversy surrounding this scene began to escalate when a character named Tulin, played by actress Mine Çayıroğlu, offered a Muslim family a dish that caused confusion and outrage. Viewers note that it was not so much the act of serving pork that became the issue, but rather the dialogue that accompanied the moment.
Discussions on social media were filled with criticism, with many deeming the scene "provocative" and inappropriate. In a country with around 85 million Muslims, such content is perceived as exacerbating polarization rather than advancing the plot.
Some commentators argue that the context and dialogues, in which family members express surprise and discontent, such as "Pork? That's rude! It's disrespectful," only highlight the provocative nature of the scene. Instead of deepening the characters, these lines create tension and provoke reactions from viewers.
According to statistics, the viewership for the third episode dropped by 35% compared to the previous week. The first and second episodes also fell short of expectations, gathering 2.5 and 2.1 million viewers respectively. After the release of the controversial episode, the series ranked last in three major categories.
Change in show schedule in hopes of regaining viewers
In response to the sharp decline in ratings, the management of the national TV channel ATV decided to change the airing time of the series, considering competition with other programs.
Starting from the 4th episode, "Under One Rain" will air on Sundays to attract more viewers and restore interest in the project.
The plot of the series revolves around Rose, a human rights activist who participates in a demonstration in support of Gaza in London, which radically changes her life. After a serious illness, she returns to Istanbul, where she meets Ali, a young man from the same demonstration. Their love leads to difficult choices and fateful decisions.
The series features well-known Turkish actors such as Hülya Avşar, Deniz Uğur, Levent Ülgen, and Fikret Kuşkan, and is currently going through a challenging period that directly affects its ratings and overall fate.
