Toktogul Hydroelectric Station after modernization has added 240 MW and will serve for another 50–60 years – president

At a republican meeting held at "Yntymak Ordo," President Sadyr Japarov announced the completion of the modernization of the Toktogul Hydroelectric Station, as a result of which its capacity increased by 240 megawatts.
According to the president, at the time work began, many hydroelectric stations in the country were in a very poor state. Most of them, including the Toktogul Hydroelectric Station, were built in the 1950s-70s and had not undergone significant modernization for a long time, despite their important role in providing electricity to the country.

“In the last four years, extensive reconstruction work has been carried out. Four units at the Toktogul Hydroelectric Station have been completely updated, which has allowed for an increase in its capacity by 240 megawatts,” the president noted.

He added that 28 new small hydroelectric stations have been built and launched in the country. The head of state emphasized that without timely and systematic measures, Kyrgyzstan could have faced a serious electricity shortage, which would have negatively impacted the economy. Now, after modernization, the Toktogul Hydroelectric Station will be able to operate reliably for another 50-60 years, ensuring the energy security of the state.

It is worth noting that the meeting at "Yntymak Ordo" was held to summarize the results of 2025 with the participation of President Sadyr Japarov.
