The construction of the Kambaratinskaya HPP-1, with a capacity of 1860 MW, has become one of the most significant projects in the energy sector of Kyrgyzstan. This was stated by President Sadyr Japarov at a republican meeting held on February 27, 2026.

According to the president, the launch of this hydroelectric power station will allow the country to begin exporting electricity. "Soon, with the commissioning of the HPP, the republic will be able to become an exporter of electricity," he noted.

Japarov also emphasized that many hydroelectric power stations in Kyrgyzstan have not undergone serious modernization for many years. The equipment at these stations has remained since their construction in the 1950s-1970s. "The equipment at the HPP has been operating continuously for over half a century, despite the fact that a full-scale modernization has not been carried out since then. When I came to power, the technical condition of energy facilities was extremely difficult," the president said.

Over the past four years, significant work has been done in the country's energy sector for reconstruction. In particular, the Toktogul HPP has completed a full upgrade of four units, which has allowed its capacity to increase by 240 MW. "This can be compared to the construction of a new HPP with a capacity of 240 MW," he added.

In addition, the president reported on the construction and commissioning of 28 new small HPPs. He noted that timely decisions helped avoid an energy crisis and minimize negative consequences for the economy. "If such systemic measures had not been taken, our country would have faced a serious energy crisis, which would have negatively impacted the economy. Now the Toktogul HPP can operate for another 50-60 years without the need for repairs," concluded Sadyr Japarov.
