- On February 24, the Commission announced that the EEC Council approved the start of procedures for signing an Agreement aimed at combating illegal content on the Internet.

The document, which contains agreed approaches to protecting intellectual property rights online, has been sent to the EAEU countries for the national procedures necessary for its signing.

The Agreement outlines measures that states can apply to protect intellectual property rights on the Internet in accordance with their legislation.

The project includes the possibility of judicial restrictions on access to illegal content, as well as establishing liability for owners of internet resources for blocking such content based on court decisions. It also envisions the creation of an electronic registry to account for resources with restricted access.

At the same time, member states are not restricted from adopting additional measures not provided for in this Agreement.

As noted by Bakyt Sultanov, Minister of Economy and Financial Policy of the EEC, all EAEU countries have completed the internal coordination process of the project, which creates conditions for its signing.

“This Agreement is an important step for the media and creative community, as we are establishing clear and transparent rules within the Union that will help effectively protect the interests of rights holders,” added Bakyt Sultanov.
