Many parents of schoolchildren have expressed their dissatisfaction regarding a possible complete ban on phones in educational institutions. In Kazakhstan, an initiative is being considered that would prohibit the use of smartphones not only during lessons but also during breaks. Penalties for parents are planned for violations of the rules, as reported by Ulysmedia.kz citing KTK.
Laura Baizakova noted that she purchased a new phone for her son so he could complete school assignments, as teachers actively use QR codes, online lessons, and video materials. She also emphasizes that communication with children in emergency situations is very important. At the same time, school administrations believe that the use of gadgets distracts students and negatively affects their grades. The director of Lyceum No. 28 named after M. Mametova, Aysulu Medetbekova, pointed out that children often resort to the help of calculators and artificial intelligence instead of completing assignments on their own, which leads to health issues, including vision problems and headaches.
Currently, the use of phones during classes is prohibited in schools; however, each school decides how to organize their storage. Deputies propose to introduce a uniform ban for all educational institutions. A warning is expected for the first violation, and for repeated violations, a fine of over 20,000 tenge. The Ministry of Education states that the restrictions are aimed at protecting children's health, reducing distractions, and preventing online bullying. The draft law is currently under consideration.
