Mobile phones may be completely banned in schools in Kazakhstan — even during breaks

According to Ulysmedia.kz, the current draft law under discussion proposes a complete ban on mobile phones in schools. The new version of the law includes restrictions not only during lessons but also during breaks, meaning that students will not be able to use their phones throughout the entire educational process.

Exceptions will only be possible in cases defined by the authorized education authority. Currently, the law allows the use of phones for educational purposes if it is included in the curriculum. However, in the new version, these allowances are removed, and the rules will be developed and approved by the relevant agency.

The initiators of this ban are confident that its implementation will help reduce cases of cyberbullying, limit access to unwanted content, and improve discipline among students. They also believe that it will create a calmer atmosphere in educational institutions and enhance face-to-face communication among schoolchildren.
