During the first meeting of the Kyrgyz-Tajik Intergovernmental Council in Bishkek, the Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan, Adylbek Kasymaliev, announced the country's readiness to become a "trade gateway" for Tajik goods, providing access to the markets of the EAEU and the European Union through the GSP+ system.

Kasymaliev also emphasized the significance of a major infrastructure project—the construction of a railway connecting China, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan. This project will significantly enhance Kyrgyzstan's transit capabilities and confirm its status as an important logistics hub in Eurasia. It will also open new horizons for Tajikistan.

The head of the government noted that 2025 has become a landmark year in bilateral relations, highlighting the active political dialogue and the commitment to creating a sustainable system of interstate relations.

"Kyrgyz-Tajik relations, based on centuries-old friendship, have reached a new level and now occupy an important place in our foreign policy. The successful completion of the process of delimiting the state border is a key step towards strengthening security and stability in the region. I am convinced that the demarcation of the remaining sections of the border will be completed soon," he added, noting the role of the heads of state in developing cooperation.

Kasymaliev informed about the establishment of the Intergovernmental Council, which will serve as an important tool for implementing agreements reached at the highest level.

Speaking about trade and economic cooperation, he expressed readiness to increase the export of dairy products, textiles, coal, glass products, and sugar.

As part of the leaders' directive to increase trade turnover, it was proposed to develop and sign a "roadmap" with specific measures and responsible executors. Additionally, the Kyrgyz side proposed to open Trade Houses in Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan to improve connections between entrepreneurs.

Kasymaliev also discussed issues of transport and logistics cooperation, emphasizing the need to modernize border infrastructure and enhance the efficiency of checkpoints, including the implementation of modern digital solutions.

He noted successful cooperation in the tourism sector: in 2025, Kyrgyzstan was visited by 86,000 Tajik tourists, which is 12 times more compared to 2024.

The Kyrgyz side expressed interest in joint tourism projects, including the introduction of a unified visa for Central Asian countries for citizens of third countries.

Furthermore, the Days of Tajik Culture are planned to be held in Kyrgyzstan in May, which will promote cultural exchange. Kasymaliev invited the Tajik delegation to the Sixth World Nomad Games.

In conclusion of his speech, he confirmed the Kyrgyz side's intention to implement all agreements reached within the framework of the Intergovernmental Council.

The Prime Minister of Tajikistan, Kohir Rasulzoda, also emphasized the importance of developing relations and mutually beneficial cooperation with Kyrgyzstan. He characterized the Intergovernmental Council as an excellent platform for promoting joint initiatives in trade, energy, transport, and agriculture.

Rasulzoda confirmed the Tajik side's readiness to implement all agreements reached and further strengthen the partnership with Kyrgyzstan.

During the meeting, the parties agreed on plans for further advancing the reached agreements and expanding cooperation in various fields. Both sides are confident that the meeting will serve as an impetus for active interaction between the two countries.

As a result of the meeting, a Protocol of the first meeting of the Intergovernmental Council was signed, as well as a Memorandum of Understanding between the Center for Development and Promotion of Exports "Kyrgyz Export" and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Tajikistan.
