Infographic — Electricity Imports to Kyrgyzstan Increased More Than Tenfold from 2020 to 2025

- From 2020 to 2025, there has been more than a tenfold increase in electricity imports to Kyrgyzstan, despite moderate fluctuations in production. This data is presented in the electricity balance of the republic.

In particular, in 2025, electricity production amounted to 15.3869 billion kWh, which is 4.4% higher than in 2024, when 14.7363 billion kWh was produced. Imports reached a level of 3.8 billion kWh.

For clarity, in 2020, when production was 15.4042 million kWh, electricity imports barely reached 352.6 million kWh. In the following year, 2021, the volume of imports increased to 1.6829 billion kWh, and in 2022, it amounted to 2.8064 billion kWh.

The increase in dependence on imports continued in the following years:


It is important to note that after a decrease in electricity production in 2022 and 2023, when it amounted to 13.8825 billion and 13.8393 billion kWh respectively, the production level in 2025 nearly returned to the figures of 2020.
