"Starting from 2027, the import of bulk coal will be completely banned in large and medium-sized cities of the Kyrgyz Republic, - Daniyar Amangeldiev"
Amangeldiev added that the government also intends to tighten requirements for industrial enterprises. In particular, companies that do not install purification filters will be forcibly closed.
Previously, a ban on the import of bulk coal had already been introduced in the country, and now $200 million has been allocated from the President's Fund for the construction of a coal enrichment plant as part of further measures.
As Amangeldiev emphasized, starting in 2027, a complete ban on the import of bulk coal will be introduced in large and medium-sized cities. This initiative is aimed at improving the environmental situation and reducing air pollution levels in populated areas.
Background:
In October 2025, the government had already imposed a ban on the import, sale, storage, and use of bulk coal of the 0–13 mm fraction in the Chui region and in Bishkek, with the exception of supplies for heating enterprises.
