The Earth is covered by a planetary magnetic storm

The current magnetic storms were caused by the arrival of the edge of a plasma cloud ejected by the Sun on February 2 during a powerful X8.1 flare. Although the main mass of solar plasma has not yet reached our planet, the Earth's magnetic field has already begun to actively respond to this event, leading to the emergence of storms.

At the moment, the most vivid visual effects are observed in the nighttime zone of the western hemisphere. Polar auroras of maximum intensity, reaching level 10, have been recorded over Canada and the northern states of the USA. In the European part of Russia, the situation will become clear in about 10 hours, when night moves into this region, allowing for an assessment of how far the auroral activity will spread.

It was previously reported that the Earth came under the influence of the edge of the plasma cloud significantly earlier than expected.

Interesting fact: the impact occurred almost a day earlier than the predicted time, indicating a high speed of solar plasma propagation. Despite being just the edge of the ejection, the effect is already demonstrating its visible strength.
