On February 2, 2026, during a meeting of the Committee of the Jogorku Kenesh, which deals with issues of agricultural policy, environmental protection, and water resource management, the implementation of the resolution of the Jogorku Kenesh dated May 3, 2023, No. 1147-VII, concerning the ecological situation related to smog was discussed.

Minister of Natural Resources, Ecology, and Technical Supervision Meder Mashiev noted that in Bishkek, the following factors significantly influence air pollution: coal burning in the private sector (40%), exhaust from old cars (30%), emissions from thermal power plants (15%), dust from the wind (13.5%), and industrial emissions (1.5%).

“The interdepartmental commission, established under the aforementioned resolution, is actively working to improve the situation. In 2025, it was possible to gasify 54 settlements in Bishkek, which allowed more than 51 thousand subscribers to be connected to gas supply and reduced coal consumption by 100 thousand tons. A fire at the landfill has also been extinguished, and a plant for processing solid household waste for electricity generation has been launched. Additionally, projects are being implemented to increase the share of environmentally friendly transport and to green the city,” the minister added.

He emphasized that in 2025, the main focus was on gasification, which allowed more than 51 thousand new subscribers to be connected, and on addressing issues related to the landfill, including extinguishing the fire and launching the waste processing plant. Efforts to renew the vehicle fleet and plant trees are also ongoing.
