Trump: India will buy Venezuelan oil instead of Iranian oil

Trump's words came after reports emerged in the media that Washington had informed Indian authorities of its readiness to resume purchases of Venezuelan oil. This decision, according to Reuters sources, is also aimed at helping India reduce its dependence on oil supplies from Russia.

At a meeting on Saturday, Trump also mentioned that China might consider entering into an agreement with the U.S. to purchase Venezuelan oil.

U.S. Control Over Venezuelan Oil Sales

The resumption of Venezuelan oil sales became possible after a military operation that resulted in the detention of former Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro in early January. According to available information, the Venezuelan state oil and gas company PDVSA has begun to increase production under the control of U.S. authorities.

Under a new agreement with Caracas, the U.S. has already started implementing Venezuelan oil sales. The first transactions, amounting to approximately $500 million, are being placed in accounts controlled by U.S. authorities. The total value of the agreement is estimated at $2 billion, with one of the main accounts opened in Qatar as a neutral platform for settlements.

On January 29, the Venezuelan parliament passed a law that meets U.S. requirements, opening the oil sector to private investors.
