In the CSTO, the UN is named a key partner
The Secretary General of the CSTO, Taalatbek Masadykov, in a recent interview published on the "Allies. CSTO" platform, emphasized that the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) and the United Nations (UN) are actively developing their cooperation aimed at strengthening both regional and global security. This statement was conveyed by the news agency RIA Novosti.
“Our most important partner remains the United Nations,” he noted. “Cooperation between the CSTO and the UN covers all levels, including key areas such as conflict prevention, peacekeeping operations, as well as combating terrorism and extremism, and issues of international information security.”
Masadykov also highlighted that “the CSTO represents an effective and stable structure for ensuring security in the region and is an important part of the global security system,” which is confirmed by its results over the years. He added that interaction with other international organizations is one of the main areas of work for the CSTO in the context of the new security architecture in Eurasia.
“Currently, we see how regional structures and developing countries are becoming more active in addressing regional issues, using the experience and tools of the UN,” Masadykov noted. “This will create prerequisites for strengthening the influence of those countries that understand the local situation and are interested in finding effective solutions to existing challenges. We hope that in 2026, the UN General Assembly will adopt a new resolution on cooperation between the UN and the CSTO, which is updated every two years.”
