In Poland, on Valentine's Day, a zoo offers to name a cockroach after an ex and feed it to the animals
As Valentine's Day approaches, the Lodz Zoo in Poland is launching its original initiative. For those who do not feel joy on this romantic day or are going through a breakup, the zoo offers a fun way to cope with emotions — the opportunity to "adopt" a Madagascan cockroach, name it after an ex-partner, and then treat the meerkats to it.
“Got an ex? We have a cockroach. And the meerkats are already waiting! On Valentine's Day in our Orientarium, you can name a cockroach after your ex-partner and symbolically close a certain chapter of your life,” the zoo reports.
The campaign includes three different packages:
— Basic package (50 PLN): includes the "adoption" of a cockroach, naming it, and receiving an electronic certificate confirming participation.
— Premium package (150 PLN): in addition to the certificate and name, you will receive a photo of the moment when the meerkats eat your cockroach.
— VIP package (300 PLN): includes the certificate and the opportunity to personally feed the meerkats the cockroach named after your ex.
All funds raised during this campaign will be directed to the Pangolin Foundation, which works on environmental protection and the conservation of endangered species.
The campaign will run from February 1 to 28, 2026.
