Elon Musk expressed the opinion that a cautious approach is necessary in the development of artificial intelligence to avoid scenarios similar to those depicted in the movie "Terminator".
“With robotics and artificial intelligence, we need to act with great caution,” Musk noted. “We don’t want to find ourselves in a situation like in James Cameron’s film — ‘Terminator’.”
At the World Economic Forum in Davos, where Elon Musk spoke alongside Larry Fink, the head of BlackRock, he predicted that by the end of 2026, AI will surpass human intelligence, and in five years will be smarter than all of humanity.
“I can’t say exactly what will happen in ten years, but given the current pace of AI development, I believe that by the end of this year we will see AI that surpasses any human. Next year, this will become a reality,” he added. “Probably by 2030 or 2031, in five years, AI will be smarter than all of humanity.”
Musk also noted that the emergence of AI and robots will lead to significant economic growth and spoke about plans to launch sales of humanoid robots Tesla Optimus.
“If everything goes according to plan, we hope to start selling these robots by the end of next year,” he said.
“We will create so many robots and AI that they will be able to meet human needs,” Musk noted. “I predict that the number of robots will exceed the number of people.”
In his opinion, robots will change society by reducing the need for manual labor, and soon there will come a time when they will produce new robots themselves.
“Everyone on Earth will want a robot to take care of elderly parents or children. Who wouldn’t want a safe robot to look after children or pets?” he asked.
Musk emphasized that the main goal of his companies — Tesla, SpaceX, xAI, and Starlink — is to maximize the chances for a successful future for civilization.
Additionally, he shared his plans to send people to Mars, which may take another 10 years.
“If civilization continues to develop, people will be able to reach Mars within 5-10 years,” the billionaire stated, adding that last May he planned to launch the first crewed spacecraft by 2027-2028.
He stressed that it is important not only to land on Mars but also to create a fully self-sufficient settlement there, which will take another 20-30 years: “It is truly important to create a self-sustaining civilization on Mars.”
I am convinced that the future will be amazing, with many exciting events ahead. Starship is the first rocket capable of making this project happen, and as soon as it is ready for flight to Mars, the future of civilization will be secured.
