In Bishkek, on February 7 at 17:00, there will be a performance of the ballet "The Fountain of Bakhchisarai" at the A. Maldybaev Kyrgyz National Academic Theater of Opera and Ballet.
The plot of the ballet is based on the poem by Alexander Pushkin, inspired by the legend of Khan Girey and his unrequited love for the captured Polish woman Maria, set during the time of the Crimean Khanate. The fountain of the Bakhchisarai Palace symbolizes the Khan's tears, his sorrow, and the bitterness of loss.
The Kyrgyz interpretation of this work is an adaptation of the choreography by Rostislav Zakharov, who was a pioneer of the dramatic ballet genre, and was realized by the People's Artist of the Kyrgyz SSR Erkin Mademilova.
