The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic, Jeenbek Kulubaev, made a statement at the New Year's reception organized for representatives of the diplomatic corps. In his speech, he summarized the country's foreign policy activities over the past year and highlighted the main areas of work for the near future.
According to Kulubaev, the year 2025 was a landmark year for Kyrgyz diplomacy, filled with important events. He highlighted the legal formalization of the state border with Tajikistan as one of the most significant achievements. The Minister noted that this event has historical significance not only for Central Asia but also for the international arena, as it demonstrated the possibility of transforming conflict zones into spaces of friendship, which in turn strengthened security in the Fergana Valley.
The Minister also emphasized that Kyrgyzstan continues to actively develop its international relations. In 2025, the number of countries with which the republic has diplomatic relations increased from 172 to 185. One of the significant steps was the opening of Kyrgyzstan's first embassy in Africa, located in Addis Ababa, where the headquarters of the African Union is situated. In addition, an embassy was established in Egypt, with the appointment of an ambassador expected in the coming months.
Highlighting the volume of work accomplished, Jeenbek Kulubaev reported that over the year, 190 high-level meetings were held and 633 international agreements and documents were signed. Kyrgyzstan actively participated in shaping the international agenda, chairing the Organization of Turkic States and the Collective Security Treaty Organization, as well as being a member of the UN Human Rights Council. Notably, the promotion of the initiative "Decade of Action for the Development of Mountain Regions" for 2023-2027 deserves special mention.
Kulubaev also drew attention to the international recognition of other initiatives from Kyrgyzstan, including the country's election to the Executive Board of UNESCO and the adoption by the UN General Assembly of a resolution declaring September 22 as the International Day of Nomadic Heritage, which became an important acknowledgment of the cultural contribution of the Kyrgyz people to the global community.
