At the World Economic Forum in Davos, U.S. President Donald Trump introduced the first members of his new initiative called the "Council of Peace."
On stage were high-profile representatives from 19 countries who became the founding members of the group led by Trump.
Among the participating countries were: Bahrain, Morocco, Argentina, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Hungary, Indonesia, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Pakistan, Paraguay, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, the UAE, Uzbekistan, and Mongolia. Notably, no leaders from Western Europe attended the event, as reported by the Financial Times.
Initially, the "Council of Peace" was planned as part of an initiative to rebuild Gaza, but its objectives have been expanded.
Recently, seven countries, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Turkey, and Egypt, confirmed their participation in this council. Israel also officially announced its involvement.
Other states, including Morocco, Belarus, and Bahrain, have joined the initiative. Canada, Russia, and the United Kingdom also received invitations. In the morning, British Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper told the BBC that the country would not sign the agreement that day, citing concerns about Vladimir Putin's involvement.
“You are the leaders of nations, many of you are very popular, some a little less so, but that’s life,” Trump addressed the future members of the "Council of Peace," which he will lead himself.
Trump noted that the "Council of Peace" will work closely with the UN.
The president stated that the world has become “much safer and more peaceful than a year ago.”
According to him, the Council will work in partnership with the UN and other states.
Trump also proudly announced that he has “resolved eight conflicts” and added that “one of them will be concluded soon.”
During the event, Donald Trump signed the charter of the newly established "Council of Peace."
“We will achieve peace for the whole world, and this will be a tremendous contribution to history for all of us. Each of you is a star; otherwise, you wouldn’t be here. <...> Once the Council is fully formed, we will be able to do practically anything we want in cooperation with the UN,” the American president said in his opening speech.
The White House confirmed that the "Council of Peace" has officially been established as an organization.
