“I dreamed of taking my father's place” — the son of the thief in law “Bakhti Tashkent”

In the video, Bekzod Zafarov, while in custody, talks about what he does in the colony. He noted that he performs various household and construction work and also participates in the production process at the colony's factory.

“I am the eldest son of Bakhtiyar Kudratullaev. Before my arrest, I dreamed of following in my father's footsteps and taking his place. All these thoughts turned out to be wrong. During my year in the colony, I have been engaged in household chores and work on construction sites, as well as in the production workshop where we manufacture metal structures,” he shares.

“My life now and a year ago are two completely different things. Here, it doesn't matter who you are and what your name is — the law is the same for everyone. I would advise no one to strive for the criminal world and not to succumb to the influence of 'authorities.' It brings no benefit. One should serve the people, parents, and be useful to society,” Zafarov adds.

He also noted that the realization of losses only comes when a person faces them on a personal level and talked about his family.

“Next year, my eldest son will go to school. He told me: 'Dad, come back soon, I miss you.' These words still do not leave my mind. At night, I dream about my children,” he says.

“It hurts to realize that I cannot take my son to the first grade, celebrate his first bell, participate in parent meetings, help him with his homework, and be his support. My daughter is just starting to talk, and I am missing that. I am to blame for everything. Blaming anyone else is wrong; the fault lies solely with me,” he adds.

“I made many mistakes. It would have been better to master a profession, work honestly, and be close to my family — that would have been a thousand times better,” he emphasizes.

Moreover, Zafarov admitted that he underestimated the consequences of his actions and highlighted the importance of obeying the law.

“If I had the opportunity to turn back time, I would choose an honest life, honest work, and being with my family. I miscalculated greatly. One must know and obey the law. No conditions here can compare even by 1 percent to life in freedom, honest labor, and peaceful communication with loved ones. I have been in custody for over two years and understand: it is better to have a piece of bread with family than to eat pilaf here, even if the dishes are golden. I apologize to everyone. I sincerely repent,” he concludes.

Bekzod Zafarov, the eldest son of Bakhtiyar Kudratullaev, was born in 1994 in Tashkent. He was sentenced to 11 years in prison for extortion and fraud. His younger brother Ikhtier Kudratullaev received 9 years, and their father got 20 years in prison.
