Kazakhstan is the first among the Central Asian countries to implement ChatGPT Edu in the education sector

An important announcement has come from OpenAI, which has announced the launch of the first international group as part of the Edu for Countries program. This information was conveyed to Kazinform, citing the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The first participating countries include Estonia, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Greece, and of course, Kazakhstan.

Kazakhstan's entry into this initiative will mark the beginning of the widespread implementation of ChatGPT Edu—a specialized version of artificial intelligence for educational purposes—into the country's education system. This event makes Kazakhstan the first state in Central Asia to join this international program.

“Participation in the Edu for Countries project is of great significance for our country's educational strategy. In light of global debates about the impact of artificial intelligence on learning, Kazakhstan believes that AI does not replace teachers; rather, it enhances their capabilities. The implementation of ChatGPT Edu is aimed at alleviating the administrative and methodological burden on educators, allowing for the creation of higher quality and more personalized learning conditions,” the ministry emphasized.

This project is being carried out in accordance with agreements reached under the Memorandum of Cooperation, signed on November 6, 2025, during the President's visit to the United States. The main agreement was concluded between OpenAI, Inc., Freedom Holding Corp., and the local partner Bilim Group. The project is funded through private investments, without involving the state budget or external grants, highlighting strong support from the business sector.

"Kazakhstan's entry into the first international group of Edu for Countries coincides with the Year of Artificial Intelligence and Digitalization, illustrating our thoughtful approach to integrating AI into key areas. We view ChatGPT Edu as a practical tool that will assist educators and foster the development of a research environment. The program takes into account national educational standards, compliance with safety requirements, and the principle of equal access," noted Zhaslan Madiyev, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of AI and Digital Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
