U.S. President Donald Trump threatens to impose 200% tariffs on French wines and champagne if his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron does not agree to participate in the "Council of Peace."
Previously, Macron had already stated his refusal to participate in Trump's "Council of Peace," prompting journalists to clarify the American president's reaction.

Commenting on this, Trump said: "Oh, he said that? But he wasn't actually invited. Besides, he will be leaving office soon, so it's not that important. If he continues to be stubborn, I will just impose 200% tariffs on French wines and champagne — and he will agree. Although it's not necessary for him to join this council. As you know, he won't be in power in a few months."

This threat is part of Trump's usual trade policy, which is based on pressure through tariffs. The "Council of Peace" appears to be yet another attempt to create a platform where the U.S. can set its own terms. The personal threats directed at Macron highlight how sharp international disagreements have become for Trump.

According to media reports, ahead of the forum in Davos, Trump heightened tensions by publishing provocative maps depicting Greenland as part of the U.S.

Before the start of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Trump posted a series of maps on his social network Truth Social, which many perceived as provocative. One of the maps, created using AI, shows Greenland, Canada, and Venezuela colored in the colors of the American flag.

In another image, Trump, along with Vice President Jay Di Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, is seen planting the U.S. flag on Greenlandic soil with the caption "Greenland — U.S. territory, established in 2026."
Trump has repeatedly emphasized that the U.S. should gain control over Greenland, citing national security issues and criticizing Denmark and Europe for "insufficient protection" of the island. These statements coincide with his threats to impose tariffs against those European countries that do not support his position.

As reported by Reuters, Trump reaffirmed his determination regarding control over Greenland and noted that "there is no turning back" on this issue, despite growing discontent from the EU and NATO.
