Entrepreneur Reports on Crisis in the Textile Industry Due to Lack of Government Support and Closure of Thousands of Workshops

- Since September 2025, the sewing industry has faced serious difficulties, and since then the government has taken no steps to provide assistance. This was reported on January 16, 2026, by private entrepreneur Jasur Parpiyev, who spoke at a meeting of the "Ala-Too" deputy group.
According to Parpiyev, at least 4,000 to 5,000 sewing workshops have closed recently, and there are concerns that this number will continue to grow. He also noted that when opening his own sewing production, he had to undergo numerous inspections from various regulatory bodies; however, in the context of the crisis, none of the agencies showed interest in the problems of the business.

The entrepreneur expressed dissatisfaction with the work of the Ministry of Economy and Commerce, stating that it is not coping with current challenges. He pointed out the lack of flexibility in the existing regulatory system and the excessive dependence on legislative norms.

As a positive example, he cited Uzbekistan, where since 2014 the sewing industry has received systematic support at the state and local government levels. According to him, key issues such as financing, certification, and workforce provision have been successfully addressed there, creating a competitive environment for producers.

Parpiyev also expressed surprise as to why financial support measures do not extend to the sewing industry, as they do in agriculture. He noted that deputies actively discuss the problems of the agricultural sector, while issues in the sewing industry remain in the shadows, despite the fact that about 1.5 million people are employed in it.

Furthermore, he emphasized that, according to the State Tax Service, there are 9,000 registered entrepreneurs in the sewing industry, although in reality, this number is significantly higher.

In conclusion, Parpiyev noted that in 2025, around 3,500 events were held in hotels dedicated to discussing the problems of entrepreneurs; however, these discussions, in his opinion, did not yield practical results.
