The President of Moldova is ready to support her country's accession to Romania

Sandu has repeatedly accused Moscow of interfering in Moldova's affairs. "In the current global situation, it is becoming increasingly difficult for a small country like Moldova to maintain democracy and sovereignty, especially in the face of Russia," she added in the podcast.

Despite the support for the idea of unification from the president, the majority of Moldova's population is against this step. According to Reuters, out of the country's 2.4 million residents, about 1.5 million hold Romanian citizenship, but only one-third of them support unification.

The president understands that her views are not shared by the majority of citizens. She also noted that a more realistic option is Moldova's aspiration for integration with the European Union. The country's government aims to achieve EU membership by 2030, which will require the implementation of complex reforms.
